BEER QUALITY - HAVE YOUR SAY  ---- NATIONAL BEER SCORING SYSTEM

The Cornwall branch of CAMRA is well-established and has nearly 900 members. There are regular branch meetings and socials - and occasional pub crawls (we are a sociable bunch) - so come along, join in, have a good time and bask in the knowledge that you are doing your bit to preserve traditional beers from the oblivion wished for by the big national brewers, and sometimes it seems, the ever-growing national pub chains.

If you have any comments, requests for information, or updates on our pubs (even we are hard-pressed to get round all 650 or so) you can e-mail us at branchcontact@cornwallcamra.org.uk or consult our Branch Contacts page to find the list of members who will always be pleased to receive feedback on relevant topics.

Meanwhile, to see what we get up to - campaigning, socialising, news including keeping tabs on our pubs and breweries, selecting candidates for the Good Beer Guide (and monitoring beer quality - very important, see also below), all those good beery things - have a browse around by clicking on the appropriate links above.

Cheers!

LOVE IT?  OR LOATHE IT?

Have you been into a pub recently and had a pint of real ale you thought was absolutely delicious?  Or maybe you thought 'hmm, didn't rate that very much', or 'well, OK, I wonder what else they've got'.  Or - perish the thought, but it happens sometimes - was it so terrible you had to hand it back or consider pouring it over your chips?

Well, please tell us - we'd like to know.  To help CAMRA Kernow keep an eye on how Cornish pubs treat their real ale, you can apply a score to your experience by using the CAMRA National Beer Scoring Scheme, or NBSS for short.  Feedback from CAMRA members helps us to assess the best real ale pubs when it comes to choosing entries for next year's Good Beer Guide.

We have been using our own Cornwall CAMRA feedback forms for several years now, being one of the early pioneering branches to go 'live' with this system.  CAMRA nationally soon caught up, and their online scoring forms have also been operating successfully to allow members to score beers not only in their own branch area, but anywhere they might have a pint around the country.  In order to help with processing the information in a consistent way, we have decided to switch off the locally-produced form and are asking all our contributors to switch to the national NBSS site to record their scores.  It all gets back to our NBSS Secretary just the same, but in one consistent format, which makes the analysis less time-consuming.  For everyone who has preferred to use the local form - many thanks for all the good work, please keep the data rolling in on the replacement form.

NBSS Online is the website for CAMRA members to do this, and the address is  http://www.beerscoring.org.uk

All you need is your membership number, which is your CAMRA ID, and your postcode at time of joining CAMRA, which is
your Password.  This is the same as you use to log in to the Members' Area of CAMRA's national website.  If you have difficulty logging in, there is help on the screen.  In fact, there is plenty of help for all steps in getting your pub scores entered.  If you run into difficulties that you cannot fix for yourself, then send an email to the Cornwall Branch NBSS Secretary (see Contact page).

NBSS Online lets you score beer in pubs anywhere in the country, not just Cornwall.
Just click here to gain access.

Your feedback will not be wasted!

GOOD BEER GUIDE 2012

Some 8 new pubs made it into the Cornwall section of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2012, about 13% of the total full entries for the county. This is the beer lovers' bible - full details of the nations' beers, breweries, pub chains etc. are available in the Guide.  Who brews what, who owns which, it's all there.  The Guide is available now from CAMRA PRODUCTS or all good bookshops at £15.99. Of course, as a CAMRA member you can buy it at the discounted price of £11.00 from HQ (plus £2 postage).  And the cheapest deal of all - turn up to a branch meeting in September, October or November and you will be able to get it for just £10.

CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale) is the only consumer group in the UK dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional pubs, independent breweries and real ale. The views expressed in these pages are of course those of the authors, and not necessarily of CAMRA Ltd or the Cornwall Branch of CAMRA.
